Correlations: Jannis Maroscheck

The workshop "Form is Content" with Jannis Maroscheck focused on producing two-dimensional shapes using neural networks. Recent developments in text-to-image processing have opened up new avenues for graphic design. In the workshop, participants experimented with these systems, seeking unexpected shapes somewhere between letters, symbols, and random formations. This indirect process—designing by describing—allowed exploration of the potentials and shortcomings of new technologies and human language.
Jannis Maroscheck is a German designer. He studied at the Faculty of Design Würzburg and at the University of the Arts Tokyo. He develops visual identities, print and digital products with clients from the cultural and commercial fields. In addition, his research practice focuses on new and automated processes in graphic design, form and image synthesis. His work has been awarded internationally by institutions such as TDC New York, Hong Kong Designers Association and Art Directors Club Germany. The publication Shape Grammars was published in 2020 by Slanted Publishers.
Correlations Forum, an interdisciplinary event, fosters dialogue on AI in creative contexts. Through lectures, workshops, and exhibitions, it encourages exploration of intelligent systems' impact on art and design. The next forum is scheduled for November 2024, organized by KITeGG, a research project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Visit correlationsforum.de for more information.
